Madeleine's garden at the Wild Iris
Perhaps Fort Seward's most picturesque yard is lovingly cultivated by Madeleine Shields, who raises not only exotic flowers in her gardens, but vegetables and fruits as well. Strollers might pick raspberries from the sidewalk, and envy the verdant vines of snap peas deep within the garden's paths, or they might find respite on the pastoral lawn and look out over Portage Cove and the Lynn Canal. Pedestrians as well as appreciators of art find themselves welcomed at the Wild Iris.
